In lieu of flowers

Dmitri Hvorostovsky

Dmitri Hvorostovsky died this morning in London, and I've been listening to him on YouTube all day.  When they got to the Pearl Fishers duet with Jonas Kaufmann I had to stop because I was crying too hard.  I have no stomach for skeevy politicians and media monsters today.

We saw him as Onegin in one of those Live from the Met deals at a local theater. Magnificent, and Renee Fleming was terrific in the letter scene too. I think it's available online somewhere. I'm not generally a big Tchaikovsky fan but that opera and Queen of Spades knock me out.
