Syllipsismopodi bideni was a ten-armed squid that lived 328 million years ago; its fossil was found in Montana by a team from the American Museum of Natural History, who thought it would be fun to name it after Joe Biden.  

In other calamari news, octopuses have been observed using batteries, cans and other trash on the ocean floor to make shelters or lay eggs.  Or build computers.  Just a thought.

A tourist "attraction" called The London Dungeon grabbed some cheap publicity off International  Women's Day by renaming one of its performance pieces Jackie the Ripper.  One day only!  Avoid all 365.

Nadungawuma Vijaya Raja has died at 68.  He will receive a state funeral in Sri Lanka and will then be stuffed and put on display.  Raja was a sacred elephant.

Big Japanese spiders called Joro have invaded the east coast of the US but that's not important now.  Check out these Anelosimus eximius spiders, which live in huge colonies and hunt in packs, enabling them to "bring down much larger prey."  I've read the article twice and it's all about the way they coordinate the attack.  It doesn't say what they like to eat.
