Thanks

Today is National Recognition Day for Nurses.  Trump will claim credit, but it was established by Congress in 1982.  In 1990 it became a week-long event.  It's nice to be recognized, although face masks, gowns and gloves would be even nicer.  Also more money.  Here are some ways nurses are feeling the love.

Cosplay:  Two women dressed as nurses are following FedEx trucks in Washington state in order to steal packages left on doorsteps.

Assault:  A man attempted to rape a nurse who came to New York City from upstate to help treat coronavirus patients.

Violence:  Last year, the problem of assaults on healthcare providers was already so acute that the House passed HR 1309, the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act.  One day, the Senate may get around to it.

Thuggery:  Nurses and doctors had to suit up and face down raucous protesters demanding to "reopen" the country and damn the consequences.  Long before Covid, nurses were assaulted at work more frequently than police, who were noticeably not standing up to raucous protesters.  (See Lansing.)

In short, talk is cheap.  The next time the Blue Angels take off, make sure they're dropping supplies like PPE, not just wasting fuel.
